Before You Start Packing
Don’t forget, the less you have to move, the easier your packing job becomes. Where practical, go through your cupboards and drawers and cull. Why not have a garage sale a month before you move and a tip run?
Make sure you have a good supply of boxes, masking tape, marker pens, butcher paper, and bubble wrap before you begin.
Pack as many of your belongings as possible into boxes. Be careful not to make large boxes too heavy. Pad them out with linen or pillows to both reduce the weight and add extra protection for your items.
After sealing your box, place a strip of packing tape on the side of the box and write on it the contents and which room it came from. This will make it easy to locate items when unpacking. Once you’ve emptied the box, remove the tape, and the box is ready to use again.
Make sure to remove batteries from electrical items, especially if these items will be stored for some time.
When packing your valuables, remember to set aside important documents, jewellery, and other items you wish to take in your car with you.
Clear zip-lock bags are great for organising and storing things you may need as soon as you unpack (e.g., electrical cords, batteries, keys, remote controls, light globes, and bed castors). Put these items in a box and keep it in your car.
Take apart any prefabricated furniture (e.g., beds, Ikea modular units). We can move them without dismantling, but this will be done at your own risk. If needed, you can arrange for us to dismantle the furniture on the day.
Defrost your fridge the night before and place necessary items in an Esky with freezer blocks. Wipe out any water from the fridge and collection tray.
Make sure someone is available during the load and unload process to unlock, instruct, and lock up again. This could be yourself, a family member, or a friend who understands your wishes.
Set aside all belongings you plan to take with you in your car, and let us know these items are not to be loaded into the truck. This will avoid any confusion.
Before leaving the house, walk through with us to double check that all your belongings have been loaded. Be sure to check cupboards, under stairs, and outdoor areas.
Our transit insurance covers your goods while they are being loaded, in transit, and while they are being unloaded.
Unfortunately, transit insurance does not cover:
Please note, transit insurance only covers internal damage to electrical goods where external damage is evident.
Don’t forget to check your home contents insurance. Many policies cover your goods when being moved from one residence to another.
We cannot transport animals, caged or otherwise.
