Moving Tips

We plan to make your move as stress free as possible, so here are some tips for you to help you pack and get ready for your move.

Before you start packing

Don’t forget the less you have to move the easier your packing job becomes so where practical go through your cupboards and drawers and cull. Why not have a garage sale a month before you move and a tip run.

Packing

Make sure you have a good supply of boxes, masking tape, marker pens, butchers paper and bubble wrap before you begin.

  • Pack as many of your belongings as possible into boxes - be careful not to make large boxes too heavy. Pad them out with linen or pillows to both reduce the weight and add extra protection for your items.

  • After sealing your box, place a strip of packing tape on the SIDE of the box and write on it the contents and which room it came from - this will make it easy for you to locate items when unpacking. When you have emptied the box you can remove the tape and the box is ready to use again.

  • Make sure to remove batteries from electrical items especially if these items are to be stored for some time.

  • When packing your valuables remember to put aside important documents, jewellery, and other items you wish to take in your car with you.

Moving Day

  • Clear zip-lock bags are great for organising and storing things you may need as soon as you unpack eg; electrical cords, batteries, keys, remote controls, light globes & bed castors. Put aside a box for these items and put this box in your car with you.

  • Take apart any prefabricated furniture eg beds, Ikea modular units etc. We can move them without dismantling them but this will be done at your own risk. If you require assistance you can organise for us to dismantle furniture for you on the day.

  • Defrost your fridge the night before and place any necessary items into an Esky with freezer blocks. Wipe out any water from the fridge and collection tray prior to it being moved.

  • Make sure someone is available during the load up and unload process to unlock, instruct and lock up again. This could be yourself, a family member or a friend who is familiar with your wishes.

  • Put to one side, in a separate place all the belongings you wish to take with you in your car and let us know these item are not to be loaded into the truck - this will avoid any confusion during loading.

  • Don’t forget before leaving the house to walk through with us and double check that all your belongings have been loaded. Particularly check cupboards, under stairs and outdoor areas.

Unfortunately we are not technicians. Please arrange someone to help you reconnect your TV, stereo, computer and other electrical items if you need assistance.

Our transit insurance covers your goods whilst they are being loaded, in transit and whilst they are being unloaded.

Unfortunately Transit insurance does not cover:

  • The moving of flammable liquids - this means we cannot move gas cylinders from BBQs. All fuels and oils need to be drained and removed prior to moving.

  • Please note transit insurance only covers internal damage to electrical goods where external damage is evident.

  • Don’t forget to check your home contents insurance. As many policies also cover your goods when they are being moved from one residence to another

  • We cannot transport animals, caged or otherwise.
